SABASTIYA

STAY

For several years now, Mosaic Centre Jericho and Association pro Terra Sancta have been working together to preserve and enhance the cultural heritage of the local communities in two villages in Samaria: Sabastiya, where the tomb of John the Baptist is located and Nisf Jubeil. Thanks to projects supported by international donors, the area has been restored and excavations have been executed. As a result, there have been significant historical findings in Sabastiya (a huge complex of buildings dating back to the Crusades emerged from hundreds of cubic meters of rubble), as well as other ancient structures have been recovered in both Sabastiya and Nisf Jubeil. Now in their place, beautiful guesthouses have been built to welcome visitors. All activities including the Mosaic Guesthouse, production of homemade jam and soap in Sabastiya, and handmade ceramics produced in the Ceramic Center in Nisf Jubeil are all in support of the local community and the local economy.
